Parents, we need your help.  Head lice is a nuisance and this is the time of the year when the pesky critters are prevalent.  If your child has head lice, please report this confidential information to the office.  This will help us to determine if the situation is an isolated incident or if the situation is more widespread.

According to Administrative Policy 5141.33....

Parents/guardians are responsible to notify school officials of known cases of head lice and are encouraged to contact their family doctor or access the district web site for resources.

Staff will inform the school nurse of active infestations.  If there are two or more students affected in the same classroom within the same week, the principal and nurse will determine if a classroom lice check is needed and if information about head lice shall be sent home to all parents/guardians of those students.

If the reported incidences or percentage of students with live lice is significant, the principal and nurse will determine if head checks are to be performed in more than one classroom or for the entire school.

We celebrated our 100 days of school.  In lieu of making 100 day projects, our Kindergartners collected travel sized toiletries for the Ritter House. This is an organization which helps individuals get back on their feet and find jobs.  Each class will try and reach 100 toiletry items.
First Grade is collecting pet food.  Canned goods will be counted and the pet food will be donated to the animal shelter.
Second Grade classes are participating in their classrooms and at PE with 100 day projects.

FROM THE ART ROOM
The art room at Reed School has been abuzz with Kindergarten potters and painters. We recently glazed our first ceramic projects, mirror bases, which had been created by rolling slab and were then decorated with textures. For our first tempera project, student artists studied the parts of a butterfly, and outlined them in black on large paper. On another day they created their own secondary colors (green, orange, and violet) by mixing the primary colors (red, yellow and blue). When finished, these large and colorful insects almost fly off the page! In an earlier project we used oil pastels to draw scenes then painted over the scenes with watercolor, resulting in a lovely resist effect. We have also studied line, starting the year with spiral snails and spiral collages. Before the school year is out some of our projects will include a clay pinch pot, one color block printing and some simple puppets. The children and I greatly appreciate all the parents who donate to the foundation and who volunteer their time in the art room. Without your support, we couldn’t provide such a strong and lively art program!

FROM THE NURSE
Thank you for your diligence in helping us to restrict nuts from our campus. We appreciate your thoughtful consideration in helping us maintain a safe school environment for all!

The snacks and lunches provided by you and Kid Chow are great brain food for the learning that goes on each day. A few of the wonderful choices from Kid Chow do contain sesame seeds and oil, which for a few Kindergarten students could cause an allergic reaction.   When making your food item choices for our Kindergarten students, please consider not selecting these items:

  • trail mix
  • sesame chicken salad
  • chicken fried rice
  • chow mein
  • and sesame noodles.

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration in maintaining a safe school environment!

FROM THE OFFICE
Attendance - If your child is going to be absent due to illness, vacation, etc. please call the office at 435-7840.  If it is more convenient, please email  dkavanagh@reedschools.org   This will eliminate the necessity of a call to your home. If your child arrives tardy, please have them sign in at the front office. Thank you for your cooperation in advance.

Lost 'n Found - At the end of each month, all of the lost and found articles are collected and sent to a needy organization.  If you put your name in an article of clothing they will be returned to the teacher. There will be a box in the Multipurpose room just for articles with names on them.  Check periodically for your lost clothing.  We will keep this box until the end of the school year.

WE NEED YOUR HELP - Please consider donating your children's outgrown sweat pants, leggings, and jeans. We will keep them available in the office when needed.  Thank you so much for your cooperation in advance.
