Reed Elementary School is committed to nurturing the children under its care to be respectful and responsible citizens. We know that to instill strong character in our children, we need to expose them to positive messages and that we need to act as positive role models. We look to the “Six Pillars” as models of basic values. They are: CARING, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, TRUSTWORTHINESS, FAIRNESS AND CITIZENSHIP.characterplay.jpg

Throughout the school year, the meaning of the six Character Pillars are discussed in assemblies and in classrooms. Stories are read in the classroom and library that demonstrate the pillars in action. Students create art and technology projects that allow them to show their own personal interpretation of these important character qualities. Many classes do projects with their “buddy class" also. This is a wonderful opportunity for the older students to practice caring when working with a younger student.

The Word of the Week is introduced to the entire student body after recess on Tuesdays. Individual classes are responsible for posting copies of the W.O.W. inside and outside the school building.

We hope that you will take this opportunity to join us in promoting the same message and reinforcing these important concepts throughout the year. Home and school working together will help cultivate caring, strong, and responsible character in our children.
