Principal's  Message
By Nora Ho

We are finishing our STAR testing for 2nd grade and are presently gearing up for our K-2 assessments. Data will be used to plan for instruction and to determine needs for the new school year. We have also identified teacher leaders who will be attending an all-day Math Common Core training on May 29th

Our School Site Council has reviewed the Parent Survey. (click on link) and be sure to fill out  the survey. If you have more than one student, please fill out a survey for each child. Your input is important in helping our school to better provide for the needs of all our students.  We are also in need of 2 parent representatives for School Site Council.  This is a 2 year commitment and the positions are determined through a vote by our school community.  Presently, we have 2 people who are interested in running again for the positions.  If others are interested, please turn your name in to the office along with a paragraph about yourself. Ballots will be posted in the next Headline News.

Thursday, May 17th is a full day of activities.  In the morning, the school will welcome Molly Raynor, kindergartner, who will be our Principal of the Day.  At 9:00, our Spring Fling will begin, at which time, Molly will help welcome family and friends.  Afterwards, we will visit classrooms, have lunch with a friend, and end the day with a walk to downtown Tiburon.  At 4:00, Laura McLeran,  1st grade teacher, will be honored at the Golden Bell Ceremony.

Our second graders will be visiting Bel Aire  at 10:15 a.m. on May 21st.  On this same date, there is a Parents only evening to visit Bel Aire at 6:30 p.m.  Parents are asked to park on Karen Way.

Saturday, May 21st, is a tree planting ceremony at Reed  Three trees will be planted near the cyclone fence of the upper playground. Families are welcome to watch as Marin Re-Leaf will be demonstrating how to plant a tree!  The district-wide disaster drill will take place on May 22nd and Kindergarten Safety Day will take place on May 23rd.  As you can see, we have a very busy month of May!

FROM THE PTA

Thank you to all of the volunteers who have worked so hard to support Reed school this year! From car line to math centers, hot lunch to field trips, book fairs to yearbook design, assemblies to spirit wear, our school simply wouldn’t be as great without you. If you’d like to get more involved with Reed PTA next year, please keep an eye out for the Volunteer Coffee held early in the school year. It’s the perfect time to sign-up and get involved.

Among our amazing volunteers are Lisa Krausz, Claudia Bressie and Bethany Rankin, who recently hosted the final Staff Appreciation luncheon of the year. Thank you to them and all of the many parents who donated food; the dinners and luncheons were truly appreciated by our teachers and staff. You may not have known, but Bethany is a professional chef who personally catered all of the Staff Appreciation events this year! She can be reached at bethany@marinprivatechef.com.
